3.10.1. Check of system of cooling

At the first signs of an overheat if the arrow of the index of temperature left in a red zone, but from under a cowl puffs of vapor do not escape, include the maximum mode of heating of salon (see. «Heating (conditioning) and salon ventilation»). It is necessary to reduce liquid temperature in system of cooling of the engine.
Turn on the alarm system, squeeze out a coupling pedal, then, using inertia of the car, try to move carefully to the region of the carriageway and to stop as it is possible more to the right at a roadside and if it is possible, outside of the carriageway. Let's to the engine work few minutes at normal rate of rotation of a cranked shaft idling with the heater included on full capacity.

Prevention
Do not stop the engine at once! The only stipulation — preservation of tightness of system of cooling. If burst or the hose came off or other place of leak, except liquid emission from under a stopper of a broad tank was formed, the engine should be stopped immediately.

After a stop of the peregrety engine the local overheat of cooling liquid in places of its contact to the most heat-stressed details of the engine and formation of steam jams begins.
1. Stop the engine.
2. Open a cowl and examine podkapotny space. Define, steam from where escapes. At survey of the engine pay attention to availability of cooling liquid in a broad tank, on an integrity of rubber hoses, a radiator, the thermostat.

Prevention
Never open at once a stopper of a broad tank. Liquid is in system of cooling under pressure, when opening stopper pressure will sharply fall, liquid will begin to boil and its splashes can scald you. If you want to open a stopper of a broad tank on the hot engine, previously throw from above with a dense thick rag and only after that carefully turn a stopper.

3. Glance under the dashboard from the forward passenger — whether there is no under it a leak or traces of the cooling liquid following from a radiator of a heater.
If the leak of the cooling liquid is found, the burst hose can be restored temporarily by means of a sticky tape.

Good advice
Especially well for this purpose is suitable reinforced (for example, silvery color) a sticky tape which can be got in autoshops.

It is quite difficult to eliminate a leak of a radiator, the thermostat or a heater on a place therefore in such situation it is necessary to add water in cooling system and at movement to watch closely the temperature index, periodically restoring level in cooling system.

Preventions
Long use of water instead of antifreeze leads to scaling in system of cooling of the engine, to deterioration of its cooling and, as a result, to resource reduction.
Never add cold water in the peregrety engine. The engine should cool down with an open cowl not less than 30 minutes.

4. Break or weakening of a tension of a belt of a drive of the generator and the water pump practically always leads to an engine overheat. If the belt is whole, check and if necessary adjust its tension (see. «Check of a tension of a belt of a drive of the generator and conditioner compressor»). If there was a break, replace a belt (see. «Replacement of a belt of a drive of the generator and the conditioner compressor») also adjust its tension.
5. The engine can overheat in case of failure of the thermostat which regulates passing of a stream of liquid in cooling system through a radiator or by it (for acceleration of warming up of the cold engine).
For check of the thermostat it is necessary to check on the heated-up engine to the touch temperature of the hose connecting the thermostat to a radiator. If the radiator hose cold, the thermostat is faulty, circulation through a radiator is not present.
6. Very often reason of an overheat of the engine which system of cooling is equipped with the electric fan, the fan exit out of operation is.
7. Start up the engine, watch temperature and pay attention, whether joins at an engine overheat the fan of system of cooling. If it does not join, the fused safety locks (fusible inserts), faulty relays of the inclusion, the oxidized contacts in a block of a plait of wires or the burned-down electric motor can be the reasons. Replace fusible inserts in the assembly block of safety locks and the relay established in podkapotny space. If after replacement of fusible inserts the fan did not start to work, check the electric motor for what take two additional wires and submit on it a food directly from the storage battery. Wires should be reliably fixed and isolated.

Prevention
Do not allow short circuit of wires among themselves! Pay attention to polarity of connection: the electric motor should rotate so that the fan forced air through a radiator on the engine, and the directions of an obrazuyemy stream and a running (traveling) stream of air coincided.

If the electric motor started to work, electroconducting, safety locks or the relay of turning on of the fan of system of cooling is faulty; if is not present — electroconducting or actually the electric motor is also faulty. The relay, safety locks and the electric motor are not maintainable, replace them (see section 10 "Electric equipment").

Good advice
In a stopper of a broad tank two valves are established: inlet and final. The final valve plays large role in providing an optimum temperature mode of the engine. It supports in system superfluous pressure not less than 0,145 MPas (1,45 kgfs/cm2), providing temperature increase of the beginning of boiling of cooling liquid and preventing intensive steam formation. Unfortunately, if the valve jammed in a closed position, at an overheat there is a considerable excess of superfluous pressure — more than 0,15 MPas (1,5 kgfs/cm2) that can lead to a rupture of a broad tank or failure of one of hoses. In turn, valve jamming in open situation leads to premature boiling of cooling liquid.
Therefore once a year wash out a stopper of a broad tank flowing water. If there were doubts, replace a stopper. It is obvious that if on the peregrety engine to remove a stopper of a broad tank and on time this action will coincide with a heatstroke, boiling up of liquid and formation of air jams in system of cooling will be guaranteed.
Once a year blow radiator cells a stream of the compressed air (for example, from the compressor), directing a stream at first towards to a running air stream, and then in its direction for removal from a surface of a radiator of the dirt, the stuck insects and road garbage. It is so possible to restore efficiency of a radiator partially.
