4.3.30. Service of the storage battery

When using a served battery room of the battery not less often than once in two weeks delete with dry rags a dust and dirt from a surface of a monoblock and a battery cover. If on a cover casually there was an electrolit, remove it with the pure rags moistened of 10 %-nym with solution of liquid ammonia or soda. Then dry wipe a cover surface.

Prevention Clear a cover surface only at densely wrapped up jams in order to avoid electrolit pollution.

Watch that jams were always densely wrapped in mouths a banok. Not less often than once in two weeks check purity of openings for a gas make in jams (if they in them are executed) or lateral walls of a cover as the contamination of these openings will cause increase of pressure of gas in the battery that can lead to its damage.

For prevention of oxidation of polar conclusions of the battery and tips of wires regularly clear conclusions and tips, grease them with technical vaseline or konsistentny greasing. Watch density of connection of tips of wires and conclusions.

Good advice Instead of technical vaseline or usual konsistentny greasings it is best of all to apply current-carrying medesoderzhashchy greasings available on sale to protection against oxidation of conclusions and tips.

Periodically check reliability of fastening of the battery on the car, if necessary tighten it in order to avoid emergence of cracks on a monoblock.

Good advice For reduction of the vibrations which are transferring to a monoblock of the battery, and in order to avoid damage of a paint and varnish covering in case of an electrolit effluence from the storage battery establish the battery on a rug from acidproof rubber.

Wires should be attached to battery conclusions with a weak point as the tension of wires can lead to shaking of conclusions in a cover and an electrolit leak.

Periodically, is not more rare than once in two weeks, check electrolit level in battery elements.

Note At batteries with the general for all elements a cover equipped with a condenser cavity, it is allowed to check electrolit level once in two months.

Electrolit level in all elements should be higher than the top edge of separators that corresponds to finding of level between «MIN» and «MAX» labels on a wall of the translucent case of the battery on 5–10 mm.

Good advice To check electrolit level over the top edge of separators conveniently glass tubule: lower it in an element against the stop in a separator and, having closed the free end of a tubule a finger, take out from an element.

For restoration of level of electrolit add only the distilled water. If it is precisely established that the reason of low level is the vypleskivaniye, add electrolit of the same density, as remained in a battery element. If level is higher than norm, pump out electrolit a rubber pear with an ebonitovy tip.

Prevention To add in the storage battery the concentrated acid it is strictly forbidden!

If in use there were difficulties with engine start-up, check degree of a zaryazhennost of the storage battery on density of electrolit or tension on its conclusions in not loaded condition (tab. 4.4). For check of density of electrolit use the areometer or the poplavkovy indicator of density of electrolit available on sale. On conclusions of the battery it is possible to measure tension by any voltmeter of a direct current with a limit of measurement 20 In (the similar voltmeter is a part of all autotesters available on sale).

If degree of a zaryazhennost of the battery of 75 % or below, it is necessary to remove it from the car and to charge by means of the charger (see. «Charging of the storage battery»).
